The Power of Intentional Habits

The Power of Intentional Habits

I came across a quote by Albert Gray that stopped me in my tracks:

“Men form habits and habits form futures. If you do not deliberately form
good habits, then unconsciously you will form bad ones. You are the kind of
man you are because you have formed the habit of being that kind of man,
the only way you can change is through habit.”

It’s simple but powerful. You are where you are today because of the choices you’ve made—whether intentional or not. Newton’s Third Law says that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The same is true in life. Every choice you make produces a result, and over time, those results become your habits.

If you aren’t intentionally forming good habits, then you’re unintentionally forming bad ones. Maybe it’s from ignorance, maybe from misinformation—but either way, you’re still living the results. If you want better outcomes, you must start forming better habits—on purpose.

Knowledge alone won’t change your life. You can read every article about success, motivation, or getting out of debt, but until you take action, nothing changes. Goals are only useful if they move you to do something.

If you want to get out of debt, you have to make it a priority. You didn’t get into your situation by accident, and you won’t get out of it by chance either. You have to decide what matters most—and accept the consequences of that choice.

Here’s a short guide to get started:
1. Accept responsibility for where you are right now.
2. Set a goal and write it down.
3. Understand its importance. What matters more getting out of debt or eating out three times a week?
4. Create a strategy to reach your goal.
5. Follow that strategy intentionally.

Intentional action creates momentum. Momentum creates change. And change built on better habits creates the future you want.
